Frequent watchers of Law and Order might still be hearing that frequent phrase ring in their ears: “On the sole count of the indictment, how do you find?”
I doubt there are too many one-count indictments outside fictional courtrooms. But Calvin Smith, a Washington DC convicted drug dealer, may have set a new record in front of the U.S. Supreme Court this term. He appeared to ask the Court to throw out some of the … 158 counts of which he had been convicted.
Unfortunately for Mr. Smith, he left still convicted of 158 counts.
